Freda Cowan, MSN, RN, FNP, GNP, has more than 10 years experience as a Nurse Practitioner,
and over 20 years experience in nursing, including medical/surgical care, telemetry, home
care, and undergraduate nursing education. She began her nursing education at Western Carolina
University, obtaining her BSN; in 1993, she earned her MSN at the University of North Carolina
at Greensboro. Ms. Cowan earned a post-master’s certificate as a GNP from UNC-G, and as an
FNP from Old Dominion University.
Recently Ms. Cowan served as the County Medical Examiner for Hertford and Bertie counties in NC,
and as an FNP at Ahoskie Primary Care. From 1993 – 1995, she owned and operated the Grandin House,
in Lenoir, NC, which provided family home care services.
Currently, Ms. Cowan is practicing as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice
and Palliative Care Center, in Winston-Salem, NC. She is certified as both an FNP and a GNP, as is
a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, the American
Diabetes Association, and Medical-Legal Nurse Consultants.
